Johannes Christopher Gérard’s Urban Structures and Patterns examines patterns, structures, rhythms, objects, architectural fragments, and spaces within urban environments. The project comprises 18 black and white photographic works, each divided into three sections presenting detailed motifs from different cities. Gérard describes his approach as an effort to isolate, catalog, analyze, and study urban elements and their relationships. His personal experiences with chronic mental illness, hearing problems, and other past health issues also play a subtle role in his artistic concepts, exploring contrasts between presence and absence, truth and falsehood, matter and imagination, and perception and hallucination.
