Natalia L Rudychev’s Polaroid Decay Metamorphose explores personal emotion and states of mind through an unpredictable process. She photographs intimate moments with a Polaroid OneStep+, then submerges the photographs in water for one or two weeks, allowing them to metamorphose until enough visual information remains to evoke the original emotion. Rudychev connects this process with Heidegger’s ideas of concealment and unconcealment and sees the risk of potentially ruining a one-of-a-kind print as a reflection of risk and uncertainty in life.
