Photographer Eugenio Fieni, born in Correggio (Reggio Emilia) in 1959, began his photographic journey in 1980 and later joined a local photography club in 1993. His dedication and artistry have earned him national and international recognition, with his works held in museums and photo libraries in Italy and abroad. The Italian Federation of Photographic Associations (FIAF) has acknowledged his achievements with honors such as Artist of Italian Photography, Excellent Photographer/Silver, and Benemerito Italiano Photographer. Representing Italy, Fieni contributed to the team’s World Cup victory in 2001 for black and white photography and secured an individual bronze medal in 2022. Internationally, the Fédération Internationale de l’Art Photographique (FIAP) awarded him multiple distinctions, culminating in the prestigious EFIAP/D3 Diamond3 title in 2023.
In his project Siberia Peninsula of Jamal – Nenet – Reindeer Men, Fieni documents life among the Nenets, an indigenous reindeer-herding people living in the Arctic region of Russia. The work offers a direct look at their nomadic existence on the Yamal Peninsula, depicting the harsh climate, traditional dwellings known as chums, and the intricate relationship between the Nenets and their reindeer herds. Through close observation and extended presence, Fieni captures the endurance and adaptation of a community maintaining its way of life across generations in one of the world’s most extreme environments.
