There are places in our lives that become extensions of ourselves. If we return to them, over time, we find pieces of our own identity mixed in with the matter there. Raising Posterity is an attempt to document the full landscape of a person in changing rural America. As the rich physical and cultural landscapes of our forefathers grow old they become apparitions of a former life, and in the aging countryside we find traces of man’s relationship to the Earth. By recording the environments that shaped one man’s identity over time, and the changing of those environments, these photographs reveal the various stages of memory in the life of a loved one. They expose the desolation that can often accompany transition, and call us to reflect upon the devouring nature of time as one generation is inevitably uprooted by another.
