I photographed most of these ladies in Ealing, the suburb of London where I’ve lived for the last 20 years. Elderly people have featured often in my images; I feel they’re under-represented in the media – the cult of youth is all-pervading but the population as a whole is ageing
I rarely have any interaction with my subjects. I prefer to seek out those unguarded moments as I feel the moment someone starts to pose the whole dynamic changes.
It’s been said that by the time we reach a certain age, we get the face we deserve. These faces are all beautiful to me.
