Life Is Impermanent

Transylvania, Romania.

The weather was extremely cold. Bone chilling cold! This photo was taken near Transylvania, Romania.  The road was desolate and the surrounding area was isolated.  The very low temperatures were unforgiving to a person not properly protected from the elements.  Looking at this barren terrain reminds me of how unfair life sometimes can be.

  1. Poverty
  2. Sickness
  3. Death

We as humans think that we are in control of our destiny, but are we really the complete commander of the way our life will take? Being born into poverty can greatly affect a child’s life.  Can children rise out of poverty and make a new life for themselves with more opportunity?  Yes, there are many instances of children rising up from the grip of poverty and reaching amazing heights of success.  These examples are much more likely in developed countries were education and opportunity are essentially available to everyone.  However, because of location and circumstances; 100’s of millions of children are trapped in cruel poverty and never release themselves from the shackles of their environment for the remainder of their lives.

A person can also have the world by the tail, with a fantastic family life,  very successful career, and then get hit hard with a life changing health crisis.  Suddenly, that individual’s entire existence is upside down and the career no longer matters.  Overcoming the poor health obstacles are top priority and family support is essential.  Overnight issues such as healthcare, financial instability, and just being productive and feeling not so sick all the time become center stage.  Fear and anxiety can take hold and complicate matters much worse.

Finally, a person comes around full circle to death.  Life is impermanent!  We are all just essentially visitors and as much as we collect things they eventually will no longer matter to us once we die.  Chasing after huge sums of money, power, and fame is like a dog chasing its tail. Everything is impermanent and as the saying goes you cannot take it with you.  All we can do is attempt to navigate thru the cold obstacles life throws at us and try to grow stronger thru the process and make sure to fully enjoy the warm moments of happiness.  At the end of the day, we can only guide our life the best we can with the cards we are dealt and be thankful for what we have.
