Artist and Designer Michael Jantzen is the Edge of Humanity Magazine contributor of these images. From the project ‘Folding Landscapes’. To see Michael ’s body of work, click on any photograph.
Folding Landscapes are a series of surreal photos that play with creating alternatives to the normal known world by manipulating parts of it. Various photos were taken of normal landscapes. These photos were placed into my computer where they were copied several times and overlaid one on top of the other. Those layers were then manipulated in various ways and placed back over the normal landscape photos.
In some cases only one layer was applied and folded over the normal photo appearing to reveal a hidden reality. In others, many layers were manipulated forming completely new fantasy landscapes that appear to coexist with the normal world in a completely unexpected and surreal way.
In all cases my intent is to inspire stories in the minds of the viewers about what these landscapes are and how they were formed. Perhaps these altered images might suggest dreams of the normal landscapes.
