Written By Sapir Bronzberg Levi
When visiting museums in Europe, I noticed that museums are having no transparency regarding their considerations for favoring certain art exhibitions and artists. Therefore, some artists become canonical to the world of fine art while leaving others behind. As I saw these processes I began questioning; who determines what Art is? Who decides what an artwork is? What is required from an artist in order to be displayed at a museum or a gallery? Where is drawn the fine line between ‘Fine Art’ and just ‘art’? What kind of art deserves to be displayed in a museum?
In this exhibition I aim to change the existing balance and make every visitor an artist by encouraging the visitors to take part in the exhibition. I ask the spectators to take a photo of the virtual exhibition space and artworks that I created and upload the photos to the gallery’s walls. By doing so I ask; if we let everyone become artists, will it decrease the value of the institutions? Will the value of the artworks drop following this change?
