Charles Darwin in 1859 defined evolution as «descent with modification», the idea that species change over time, give rise to new species and share a common ancestor. Throughout our lives we are changing, modifying behaviors, evolving and mutating to adapt for sheer survival to the environment and society in which we live.

Our shadow is a faithful companion to us throughout this process, as a representation of that mental metamorphosis of the individual and as a revelation of the great capacity of the human being to face adversity in the world that we have been through.
