Written by Laura Berry
Walking along a lamp lit street,
in the dead of night, distressed.
Deeper i head into the dark,
an imitation is following me.
I hear its footsteps behind my own,
its sound is hollow and stark.
.
I turn around it has no form
but follows me none the less.
I stamp my foot in reply,
it mimics me. I feel haunted.
Hunted by this parallel being
i quicken and hasten my stride.
.
Its walk in a differing plain,
one that is vast and spatial.
As its parroting steps answer me
reverberating off the stones,
sometimes loud and sometimes faint,
i am aware that the space is empty.
.
It is just me walking here.
I ricochet and bounce back to me.
A discordant version of myself.
The repetition of my soul,
follows me…
as it rebounds softer in my ears
It is not a hunter…
Nor an unearthly being.
It is just my echo.
.
I am strangely discomforted,
it sounds harsh and ethereal,
cold in its existence and pale.
A mirror form of me.
My footsteps follow me home,
confronted by myself on the way.
