Eyes slide to their corners
While I hold the coats
Pretending
Not to notice.
Fabric hangs off my fingers;
There’s a scent of winter at my nose.
This is a celebration.
It’s safe to assume.
Sly eyes have sly mouths,
And sly fingers, too.
They stuffed the envelopes;
They laid their heads on pillows, inviting;
Words strung together that embarrass my brain.
Words hanging off silk,
Striking with boredom.
But look at how well
I struggle to hold the coats.
One itch
And I’m done for.
I wonder how long they’ll
Exchange steam
With each other.
