“People don’t change!”
or
“People change!”
Constantly tussling with our identities, most of us try to be good people. We learn from our mistakes and avoid impossible situations, all in the effort of packing up one more life experience so we can react better next time. Others, cannot or will not catch a break. They jump from one crisis to another without a breath; and sometimes for the observer it seems like they feed on the bad decisions they make or the chaos they are attracted to.
Free will is an essential component of a being, but so is human nature. As we blame or credit human nature for what we are or are not, are we dismissing the choices we made?
We are what we do, with the power to choose, and make the necessary changes as we see fit. No one is born a hero or a villain; people become heroes and villains with their acts.
If we are wired with human nature, which part does free will play in our lives?
Implanted in our existence, human nature ought to be navigated. We must exercise free will in the many turns life takes, as often as necessary, to accomplish, change, or abandon our plans. We aim for our goals with our acts, some will prevail, and others will fail.
