Written by Sinead McGuigan
I see the pain of punishing stones
Evident in bleeding toes
The repetition of sound
Held captive by their procession
A sound that echoes steps
The grumbles of empty stomachs
Tired bodies propelled by the rhythm of feet
The gnawing in the sky
Open mouths longing for raindrops
Their sunken eyes filled with sand
Hearts choked with fear
Huddled in isolation
Stony silence
Waiting for their daily bread
Who will cast the first rock into the void?
Measured breaths worshiping statues
The expanse of faces to be negotiated
The lesser evil of solid walls
Pack the guilt away
Those bleeding toes waiting for
The righteous to wash their feet
The repetition of sound eaten by
The gnawing sky
The sculpted faces of death
