Written by Brenda Mox

At birth the ephemeral unconsciousness

childhood lays like a seed pod

in silence as they converse with the angels.

Though their speech is fragmentary,

little giggles rise and burst like bubbles

as they begin to blossom into their own true self.

The beautiful bewilderment

on each red, blissful face

is soon to be marked by life

in many frightening ways.

Still they stare with little heads cocked

then leap into life’s icy waters without flinching.

Filled with love and roused to the fullest,

they set off like a flash of lightening,

bright as shallow water reflecting

the stars and moon above.
