Yifan Huang is a documentary photographer based in New York City and East Asia, working primarily on long-term visual projects that explore themes of human rights, identity, and social connection. His work often blurs the lines between documentary and abstract storytelling. Through a slow, immersive approach, creating space for complex, nuanced narratives to emerge. Through photography to witness, question, and reimagine the stories that define us -both individually and collectively.
The NYC China Town began in 2016 while I was studying at the International Center of Photography. It focuses on the everyday lives of Chinese residents in New York City’s Chinatown -A world that is still hard to see to an outsider. Rather than relying on surface-level imagery, the project seeks to reveal the quieter, often overlooked moments that define life within this tightly knit and historically rich neighborhood.
