I refuse to be broken,
Never giving in to back-breaking conditioning,
I refuse to be molded into a subservient puppet
Of a Master I never embraced or served
My initial home – an “orphanage” of brutality
For I dream of freedom, liberty and independence
Shattering shackles that bind my mind and body
My knack for escape artistry establishes
my hopes for survival
Dreams never deferred, looking beyond the smoldering
trenches of Apokolips
Rebellion courses through my bloodstream,
Like Jack Kirby on the frontlines of creating me,
One of his seminal Silver Age characters
Foretelling the arrival of the New Gods
Tapping into the counterculture of the times
This is my saga
Part of the Fourth World
As I spit acid-laced saliva in the glowering
Eyes of tyranny, damaging its optics
My story unravels over a continuum
Spanning decades of issues
History can be positively revised
As panels unspool amid eager, page-turning hands
Irises swelling, scanning pencil and ink
I am finding solace in the arms of those
I am destined to protect
Finding that harmonious convergence with my own Female Fury
My last refuge
where love and defiance reign supreme
