Prior to 2020 I primarily did street photography during many trips to New York City, which culminated in my book “Seeing You In New York.” The pandemic changed everything about my work…instead of featuring people going about their lives in public spaces, it turned inward to domestic life in my own home.
The Kitchen Sink is a project that focuses on what we see right in front of us in our indoor environment. Vegetables become “art.” Dirty dishes become “interesting.” The sink becomes a “canvas” for displaying shapes, and colors, and patterns. We don’t need to travel far to find subjects or objects or ideas to make great images. It enriches our lives to be more aware and take notice of what might be considered mundane at first glance.
Artist Statement: My passion is to make images of people just being themselves, relating to each other or their environment. I admire Henri Cartier-Bresson, whose work has been called “the poetry of human encounters on the street.” That’s a beautiful description which serves as my inspiration. Life is full of discovery and connections...that is what my photography is about. Father, husband, dog owner, photographer, music lover...I have lived in Milwaukee, Wisconsin all my life but have traveled to the South Pacific, Europe, South America, and 48 states of the USA. I also spent time in New York City each year from 2008 - 2018 to do street photography, which culminated in my book, Seeing You In New York. I am honored that my fine art photography has been juried into numerous shows, and my work is in the collection of the Racine Art Museum. My stock images have been licensed through Alamy for many publications, textbooks, and corporate websites.
