In 2023, my wife and I embarked on a life-changing journey, leaving behind the familiar landscapes of France to settle in Sweden. We sold our home and rent a flat in Stockholm.. Meanwhile, her family’s house in Björnström was up for sale. We bought it in 2024. The house needed to be refurbished, we decided to reclaim this piece of her heritage, purchasing the house and committing to restoring it to its former glory—and beyond.
The first step in this transformation was symbolic: we repainted the house, shifting its color from a faded yellow to a vibrant green. This change mirrored our own evolution, a visual declaration of renewal and connection to the land.
The winters of 2025 and 2026 marked my first prolonged stay in the house during the coldest season. Sweden’s winter is a study in contrasts—days are fleeting, the sun a shy visitor, and the snow blankets everything in quiet abundance. In this stillness, I found inspiration. With my camera, I set out to document the world immediately surrounding us: the neighboring houses, the undulating landscape, and the subtle shifts in light and texture that define this corner of Sweden.
I approached the project with a clear intention: to create a visual map of my new world. By photographing in a circular radius around our home, I sought to capture not just the physical geography, but also the essence of this place—the way the snow softens edges, how the low winter sun casts long shadows, and the quiet resilience of life in the cold. Each image became a fragment of a larger narrative, a testament to the beauty of adaptation and the quiet magic of starting over.
This series is more than a collection of photographs; it’s a reflection on change, belonging, and the quiet moments that shape our sense of home.
Biography Christophe is a photographer based between France and Sweden. He is married and has two children. After studying science, he graduated from the Société Française de Photographie in 1994. Between 1995 and 2010, he worked in fashion and advertising, then between 2010 and 2020 as a portrait photographer for the French network of advanced study institutes. Since 2018, he has focused his production on personal work in the form of projects comprising photographic series, videos and notebooks. These projects seek to highlight the heroic dimension of people and places as a silent way of resisting, inhabiting and persisting in the world. The aim is to reveal the discreet transcendence, the memory load or the invisible dignity that certain gestures, certain presences and certain territories conceal. He uses a 4x5 inch camera and medium format digital to establish, from the moment the picture is taken, a relationship of tension and listening between the camera, the subject and himself. These tools force him to be slow, precise, and attentive in a way that becomes almost ritualistic—a way of entering into a vulnerable relationship with reality.
