Statement

I photograph what most people overlook.

In the constant movement of the city, moments appear and disappear without warning—gestures, glances, fragments of lives crossing for just a second. My work is about recognizing those fleeting instants and holding onto them before they vanish.

Black and white is not an aesthetic choice; it is a way of seeing. By removing color, I strip the scene down to its emotional core. Light, shadow, and timing become everything. What remains is not distraction, but truth.

I am not interested in staging or controlling reality. I work within it—quietly, instinctively—borrowing moments that were never meant to be seen. Each image is a balance between chance and intention, where composition meets unpredictability.

My photographs are not about the city itself, but about the human presence within it. They are fragments—of solitude, tension, connection, and silence. Pieces of stories that are never fully told, but deeply felt.

Through this work, I aim to create images that stay with the viewer—not because they are loud, but because they are real.

Bio

Mario Rasso is the genealogical synthesis of Javier Valenzuela Ibáñez—a constructed identity that separates his personal life from his artistic practice. The name Mario comes from his paternal lineage, inherited from his great-grandfather, grandfather, and father. Rasso, on the other hand, originates from his maternal side, as a tribute to his great-grandmother, Rosa Rasso Rebossio.

It was his mother, through family photography, who first sparked his passion for the medium. He initially trained with Giovanni Rocca, a family friend, but the impatience and shifting interests of youth led him away from photography shortly after. Two decades later, he rediscovered the craft through digital photography and the constant travel opportunities offered by his professional life.

Today, he is dedicated to street photography, capturing urban life across cities around the world. His work has been exhibited in multiple galleries and art fairs, and has been published in renowned newspapers and magazines.
