Images & Text By Irina Ebralidze

“For the past three years, my photographic practice has been an exploration of identity, interpretation, and disappearance. I see the camera and collage not merely as tools for recording reality, but as extensions of my inner world — a way of transforming lines, textures, and emotional landscapes into something tangible and deeply felt.

My project “Presence” grows from this exploration. I am profoundly moved by the idea of vanishing: the fading of connections, and the way people and memories gradually slip away from our lives and consciousness.

Irina Ebralidze

The philosophical foundation of this work is inspired by the French philosopher Maurice Merleau-Ponty, who believed that the world exists through an inseparable relationship between the body and the space surrounding it. Through this perspective, I reflect on existence as something that is not merely seen, but physically and emotionally experienced.

In these images, the human figure almost completely disappears. Yet it is precisely through this disappearance that presence becomes more palpable. The world is not something standing apart from us; we exist in constant contact with it. Objects, spaces, textures, and traces all carry the imprint of human existence, even when the body itself is absent.

This work speaks about the silence in which memories continue to exist. It is a faceless memory — a presence revealed through absence. A world where the human being is no longer the center, but only one fragment within the vast fabric of existence.”

Presents

Photography & Philosophy

The freezing of a moment is a magical event.  Images can make us feel love, rage and every sensation in between.

Photographers, whether partial or impartial to their subject matter, consume a massive amount of insight.  Their participation cannot be substituted nor replicated. The moment is gone! The experiences will live in their minds and those encounters are immortalized in their photographs.

Edge of Humanity Magazine’s ‘Photography & Philosophy’ series will bring together the art and the mind of these fantastic creators.

If you would like to participate, please contact the editor jo@edgeofhumanity.com for more details.
