I spent an afternoon at Yuko-En Japanese Garden photographing the trees, pond, paths, and quieter corners. Through infrared light, the foliage took on warm orange tones, and the sky became a deeper blue. I kept returning to the water. The trees above the pond and their reflections below seemed like two versions of the same place, meeting at the surface. These photographs share what made me stop and look again.

I’m Dan Urban, a photographer and visual craftsman who travels full time with my wife, Tracey. I photograph real places using light beyond what our eyes can see. Infrared is one of the tools I use, but the place and the moment that catches my attention come first. When I see a photograph, I can picture the finished image before I press the shutter. I then work with the color and atmosphere to bring that image to life.
