Marija B Pontet’s BELGRADE 1999, part of her ongoing photobook project The Peephole, documents life in Belgrade during the NATO air strikes through moments of waiting, uncertainty, fear, and ordinary life. At seventeen when the strikes began, Pontet photographed what remained largely invisible behind closed doors rather than destruction. Made on film, the photographs have developed into a reflection on the traces war leaves in memory, fear, habits, and everyday life long after the events have ended.
