Pierre Serpol’s Wandering Through Forgotten Villages is a documentary photography project begun in 2016 in Haut-Bugey, a region of France at the southern end of the Jura Mountains. Serpol, who lives in the region and has known it since childhood, describes travelling its roads and paths by foot, bicycle, and later by car to rediscover and photograph the landscape. His project explores the villages and surrounding land through journeys undertaken in winter light, at dusk on rainy days, and at night.
