Pietro Sacchini’s documentary photography project The Disease That Doesn’t Recognize You follows Ms. Mina, who suffers from Alzheimer’s and lost her daughter Stefania in the August 24, 2016 earthquake in Arquata del Tronto. Stefania died while protecting her sleeping mother when the roof collapsed. Mina occasionally experiences brief moments of lucidity and asks, “Where is Stefania?” before returning to her world without memories.
