Shannon Maltbie-Davis’s Miscarriage Series is based on her personal experience with miscarriage, infertility, grief, and the journey to parenthood. Through conceptual imagery and digital compositions, she communicates feelings of betrayal, inadequacy, emotional trauma, and loss while using the photographic process as a means of healing. The series uses DNA balls as embryos, thistles to represent her immune system and uterus, fake blood and clots as fetal tissue, and a rosary to express her Catholic faith. Red color gels visually connect the photographs.
