Jean-Roch Klethi’s recent work explores the relationship between oil painting and partially unravelled textiles. Using linen canvas, reclaimed jute, and other fibres, he makes their structures and textures integral to each composition. His patient process of deconstruction reflects an interest in undoing material before creating with it. Successive layers of colour transform the reconfigured surfaces into abstract forms that evoke movement, landscape-like horizons, and organic patterns of growth.
