Ekaterina Grutsa’s The Texture of Intimacy explores the inner silence and intimacy behind everyday motherhood. Inspired by chiaroscuro aesthetics of old masters’ paintings and historical cinema, the series presents an ordinary young family in a conventional home environment using only natural window light. Grutsa uses a vintage Soviet Helios 44 manual lens to create a raw, painterly texture. The mother and baby evoke the biblical image of the Madonna, while the father’s presence in deep shadows creates a protective shield around them.
